We breed our ewes in November for April lambing; they are flushed with alfalfa hay and by the first of December we have changed them over to a grass mix hay.
We lamb in drop pens and the ewes are jugged with their lambs for about two days before being released again. When we wean, the ewes are moved to pasture and the lambs are fed out in the feedlot.
Our goals for our breeding stock include a 200% lamb crop weaned, low maintenance, unassisted lambing, moderate birth weights, and good mothering instincts. If ewes are found to be lacking these qualities, they are culled from the flock.
